Curiosity. We’re all born with it; it’s innate.
Hold on a sec. If something’s “innate” – how can it vanish?
Innate. A powerful word, suggesting something fixed, and unchangeable. Can we truly lose what’s built into us? It’s a deeper question than simply assuming innate traits are forever etched in stone. Science reveals several possibilities – reasons why a natural ability might fade.
And in the case of curiosity, I suspect our friend neuroplasticity is the culprit. A chameleon of the brain, adapting, changing, building new connections.
A beautiful thing, but it has a shadow. Untapped pathways fade like whispered secrets long forgotten. The brain, ever the pragmatist, says, “Use it or lose it.”
Curiosity kick-start challenge
Start rebuilding your neural pathways to curiosity!
Here’s what you’re going to do. Step outside, or maybe just down the hall to a coworker’s space. But don’t just walk – become a detective of the mundane. Notice every detail, every shadow, every “creak” of the floorboards. Ask yourself questions like “I wonder why…” or “How does that work?”
Until next week…stay curious!

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”
